The 45 days does not start when you send the purchase order. It starts when you confirm the sample.
That one sentence explains most missed launch dates in this category. The production clock is the part a factory can promise. The clock in front of it is the part a brand controls, and it is usually the longer of the two.
Where the calendar actually goes
Break a program into its real segments and the shape becomes obvious.
Specification. However long it takes you to decide, which is why the specification document is the real starting gun. A factory cannot start until the fields are filled in, so this segment is invisible on a factory schedule and very visible on a launch calendar.
Sampling. 7 to 15 days for us, per round. The number that matters is not the duration. It is how many rounds you run.
Sample review. However long the sample sits with the brand. This is the segment nobody counts and it is routinely the largest one.
Bulk production. 45 days from a confirmed sample.
Ocean freight and customs. Not a factory number at all.
Two of those five segments belong to the brand, and one belongs to a freight forwarder. A factory that quotes you 45 days is quoting one segment out of five, honestly, and a brand that hears 45 days as the total is planning against a number that was never the total.

The question buyers ask last
We classified 2,424 substantive inquiries this site has received. Lead time came eighth out of ten topics, in 2.5% of all messages and 4.7% of the last six months. Material came first at 20.3%. Price came third at 11.6%.
Read that against what actually kills a season. Material can be changed on a drawing in an afternoon. A missed vessel cannot be changed at all.
The pattern is not carelessness. Lead time feels like a fact you can look up, so it gets asked late, once everything else is settled. By then the specification round has already consumed the slack.

The two dates that are not ours
The ocean leg. Get the transit and the cutoff from your forwarder, in writing, for the specific lane and the specific month. It moves with the season and with the port pair, and a factory quoting it to you is repeating something it also heard from a forwarder.
Chinese New Year. In 2027 it falls on Saturday, February 6, and the official public holiday runs eight days, February 5 to February 12. The traditional celebration period runs sixteen days, through the Lantern Festival on February 20. Source: China Highlights, Chinese New Year dates, checked as of August 2026.
The official eight days is not the planning number. Lines restart as workers return rather than all at once, and the weeks either side of the holiday carry the pressure of everyone in the country trying to ship before it. Plan the vessel, not the holiday.
What actually compresses a schedule
Three things, and none of them is asking the factory to go faster.
Freeze the specification before sampling. Every open field is a future sample round. One extra round is the 7 to 15 days plus however long the sample sits with you, which is usually the bigger half.
Review the sample in one pass. Collect every comment from every stakeholder before sending anything back. Two partial reviews cost a full round more than one thorough review does.
Release long lead hardware early. Locks, wheels, and telescopic handles come from component suppliers with their own calendars. Approving the shell while the hardware is still undecided does not move the finish date.
What does not compress a schedule is a deposit. Money does not shorten anodizing, curing, or an ocean crossing.

What we do and what we do not
Sampling runs 7 to 15 days per round. Bulk is 45 days from a confirmed sample. Our minimum is 300 units per design, and smaller test batches are negotiable rather than refused.
We will give you a date that counts backward from when you need the goods in the warehouse, including the segments that are not ours, rather than forward from the deposit. If the date does not work, you will hear that before the deposit and not after it.
We do not quote a shorter production window to win an order. A promised 30 days that becomes 55 costs a brand its season, and it costs us the account, so there is nothing in it for either side.
We also do not count the sample review period as your problem alone. If a sample has been with you for three weeks we will say so, because the launch date moved and somebody has to be the one to notice.
Money does not move the calendar, but it does decide when goods release. That is which payment structure puts the risk where.
Tooling sits in front of the production clock, and its cost is set out in what a tooling number actually buys.
Frequently asked questions
What is the estimated production lead time after deposit and sample approval?
45 days for bulk, measured from a confirmed sample rather than from the deposit. Sampling before that runs 7 to 15 days per round. Ocean freight and customs sit outside that number and come from your forwarder.
What are the lead times for samples?
7 to 15 days per round for us. The figure that decides your calendar is how many rounds the program runs, which depends on how complete the specification was before the first sample was cut.
How should I plan around Chinese New Year?
In 2027 the holiday falls on February 6 with eight official days off from February 5 to February 12. Work backward from the vessel you need rather than from the holiday itself, because the constraint is the shipping crush before the shutdown rather than the shutdown alone.
